Strong to severe storms Wednesday into Thursday in South Carolina

FOR DOT COM. IT IS A LIVE SUPER DOPPLER FOUR ALERT DAY. ANYTIME YOU SEE THAT RED ICON, IT MEANS THAT DANGEROUS WEATHER IS HAPPENING OR EXPECTED. IN THIS CASE, WE’RE WATCHING A TORNADO WATCH BACK TOWARD THE WEST. THAT MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADIC ACTIVITY, BUT NOT GUARANTEED CLOSER TO HOME. WE’VE HAD OUR SHARE OF SEVERE WEATHER ALREADY TODAY. THAT WAS ROUND ONE. ROUND TWO MOVES IN AROUND MIDNIGHT. WE’VE GOT SOME REMAINING HEAVY DOWNPOURS ACROSS SIMPSONVILLE, PARTS OF THE UPSTATE THROUGH SPARTANBURG INTO CHEROKEE COUNTY. VERY HEAVY RAINFALL, BUT NO LIGHTNING, NO HAIL, NO STRONG WINDS. THAT’S THE GOOD NEWS. SAME STORY BACK THROUGH SIMPSONVILLE, THROUGH WOODRUFF, DOWN TOWARD GREYCOURT. THAT’S WHERE WE’VE GOT SOME STRONG RAIN AND HEAVY RAIN. RIGHT NOW. ROUND ONE IS MOVING TOWARDS CHARLOTTE AND COLUMBIA. ROUND TWO IS BACK TOWARD THE WEST. THIS IS WHAT WE’LL HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR DURING THAT MIDNIGHT THROUGH 3 A.M. TIME FRAME. NEED TO WATCH THAT CLOSELY AS THIS ROLLS THROUGH. IT’S RESPONSIBLE FOR MANY NUMEROUS SEVERE AND THUNDERSTORM AND TORNADO WARNINGS THAT WE GOT BACK THROUGH NASHVILLE. THAT AREA UNDER A VERY HIGH RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER FOR OUR AREA. WE WERE UPGRADED TO THE HIGH RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER TODAY. YOU DON’T SEE THAT THAT OFTEN. IN THIS CASE, STRONG WINDS BEING OUR PRIMARY CONCERN. WE’VE GOT A LOW TO MEDIUM LEVEL, TWO RISK FOR TORNADOES. WHEN I LOOK SPECIFICALLY AT THAT, WHILE IT’S NOT OUR HIGHEST THREAT, IT’S CERTAINLY NOT OFF THE TABLE AND SOMETHING WE’LL BE WATCHING CLOSELY TONIGHT. NOT ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS WHERE IT’S JUST A WIDESPREAD OFF THE CHARTS THREAT. BUT LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. TOMORROW, THAT THREAT SHIFTS TO THE SOUTH. THAT SAME LINE MOVES THROUGH THESE AREAS DURING THE HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY. THEREFORE, THERE’S A HIGHER RISK THERE FOR US LOCALLY. WE HAVE PLENTY OF STORM FIELD TO GO AROUND, EVEN GOING INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. SOUTHERLY WINDS BRINGING IN MUGGY, WARM AIR THAT WILL LINGER EVEN PAST SUNSET. LOOKING SPECIFICALLY AT THE TORNADO INGREDIENTS, THERE’S PLENTY OF IT BACK TOWARD THE WEST THAT WE’LL NEED TO WATCH CLOSELY. NOW, LET ME PUT THIS INTO A MODEL AND SHOW YOU WHERE IT GOES. I’M MAPPING OUT THAT TIME FRAME. NINE 3010 11:00 YOU SEE THOSE YELLOWS AND ORANGES GETTING INTO THE WESTERN PART OF THE AREA? THAT MEANS THAT ANY STORM THAT’S OVER US DURING THAT TIME FRAME WOULD HAVE ROTATION OR THE ABILITY TO BEGIN TO ROTATE. SO WE’LL NEED TO WATCH IT CLOSELY. THAT DOES NOT GUARANTEE A TORNADO BY ANY MEANS, BUT CERTAINLY WE HAVE THE INGREDIENTS FOR THAT AROUND THAT TIME. BY 4 A.M., WE’RE KIND OF SPLIT ACROSS THE AREA WITH THE GREATER INGREDIENTS FOR THAT SOUTH AND WEST OF ATLANTA AND EAST OF GREENVILLE TOWARD THE COAST, AS THAT’S WHERE WE’LL HAVE MORE WARM AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS THERE. LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL SKY RIGHT NOW OVER GREENVILLE. THE CALM AFTER THE STORM, SO TO SPEAK, AND TEMPERATURES THERE TRYING TO WARM BACK UP. WE’RE BACK TO 69 DEGREES. WE WERE AT 67. NOW WE’RE KIND OF CLIMBING BACK UP AND WE’LL CONTINUE TO DO SO. UNFORTUNATELY, UNTIL THAT SECOND ROUND MOVES THROUGH. BRAND NEW TIMING HERE FOR US WITH THIS NEW MODEL THAT JUST CAME OUT SHOWING STORMS PUSHING TO OUR SOUTH AND EAST, A BREAK THAT COULD LAST SEVERAL HOURS, YOU’RE GOING TO BED AT 11:00. MAKE SURE YOU TUNE BACK IN ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS. YOU SHOULD JUST KEEP CHECKING BACK IN. I’LL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE BY 1:02 A.M. MORE STORMS KNOCKING ON THE DOOR. HEAVY RAIN, LIGHTNING, SOME THUNDER. CERTAINLY POSSIBLE OUT OF THIS AS IT ROLLS THROUGH YOUR TOWN. AND EMBEDDED IN THIS COULD CERTAINLY BE A STRONGER STORM. BUT REMEMBER, I SHOWED YOU THOSE INGREDIENTS 3:04 A.M. THERE TO OUR WEST AND TO OUR EAST. SO WE MAY SEE THAT THE STORMS ARRIVE WHEN MOST OF THE INGREDIENTS HAVE KIND OF MOVED OUT OF OUR AREA. NONETHELESS, STILL SOME HEAVY RAIN, SOME LIGHTNING, A POSSIBILITY INTO TOMORROW MORNING. OUR SKYCAM NETWORK SHOWS MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA. 80 CERTAINLY NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION BEFORE THE SUN GOES DOWN WHEN YOU WAKE UP TOMORROW. UPPER 60S MUGGY. SOME LINGERING SHOWERS, EVEN A THUNDERSTORM TOMORROW AFTERNOON AS THE REST OF THIS MESS MOVES ON OUT. THE FOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE THIS A LIVE SUPER DOPPLER FOUR IMPACT DAY TOMORROW WITH LINGERING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNING HOURS. WE’RE AT 80 ON FRIDAY, CLEARING OUT JUST IN TIME FOR THE WEEKEND. LOTS O
