Offaly chairman Michael Duignan has slammed supporters who took to social media to lambast his county’s footballers, claiming they should be ‘ashamed’ of their actions.

The Faithful County looked set to register a routine win over Clare in Sunday’s Allianz League Division 3 clash in Tullamore where they led by a whopping nine points (1-10 to 0-4) after 50 minutes.

However, in a dramatic finale, Offaly’s Peter Cunningham drove his late penalty over the crossbar as Clare stormed back to win the game on a 2-10 to 1-12 scoreline.

In the fall-out, the Offaly management and players were subjected to vicious online criticism, prompting Duignan to take to X in response.

‘Thanks lads for your comments. No one on here has ever been inside an inter-county dressing room. You have no idea what these players do for their county,’ posted Duignan.

The result leaves Offaly still waiting for a first win under new manager Declan Kelly, having lost to Westmeath and Antrim in the opening two rounds and they are currently at the bottom of the table.
