Chili Mac Skillet Recipe (1)

When we were growing up, this time of year was absolutely INSANE for our family.
Five of the six sisters played soccer (I was the uncoordinated sister who didn’t play), with many sisters playing in more than one league; one sister did tumbling, all six of us took piano lessons and had a large spring piano recital, and softball season started (which all six of us also played).

Our sweet parents became a taxi service, shuttling each of us to our different activities.

To be honest, I am not sure how they kept it together during this crazy season!
I have three children myself and on busy nights, it’s a struggle to get dinner on the table.

This is a quick and easy meal is perfect for those nights when you need a dinner in a hurry. From start to finish, it’s ready in 30 minutes or less!

Sure you can. However, expect it to be very tough. Brisket is one of those types of meat that is best when co*keod slow so that the fat and cartilage have time to break down properly. If you try sauteing or frying your brisket (in olive or some other oil or in a bit of butter), be sure to cut the pieces thin and bite-size small, and don't cook the pieces for very long or they will be impossibly overco*keod, dry, and tough. It might help if you throw in some onion (for juiciness) and/or some tomato sauce (any kind you have on hand, including ketchup) to help break down the meat and make it a bit tenderer.Good luck.

this looks amazing!!!! I cannot wait to make it!

  3. jenn o says:

This was delish. Only changes made is that I used kidney beans(what I had on hand) and instead of rotel I used chopped tomatoes and garlic, since the kids think rotel is too hot for them. The Worcestershire sauce is what makes this dish so tasty. I doubled the cheese, we like it cheesy. perfect quick midweek meal. Will make again for sure!

  4. Amy says:

We thought this was pretty tasty. I made it as directed with ground turkey. It definitely is a bit spicy and my kids aren't used to that, so 4/5 didn't really eat it. But, it was a welcome addition to our menu and I think I'll make it again.

  5. Lynn says:

I just made this and it is really good. So easy and inexpensive too. I had leftover small shells so I just used those instead of buying macaroni. Definitely is a keeper and will be making again! Thanks.

  6. Kelly H. says:

Delicious! Made this for dinner tonight and my family devoured it. No leftovers!

  7. Rose says:

Better than my old go to chili mac recipe. There is something about the zing of the ketchup and warmth of the Worcestershire that give it that extra yumminess.

  8. Lea says:

I dont know about you guys but this recipe is actually missing the "chili" flavor. I had to go look at some other Chili Mac recipes to see why it didn't taste all that great to me. Really needs some chili powder and cumin. This recipe just did not fit my family's expectation of Chili Mac.

  9. Colette says:

Needed more noodles, otherwise it had good flavor

FAQs

What is the secret to really good chili? ›

Only Add Flavorful Liquids

Instead of adding water to your chili, add some more flavor with chicken or beef broth, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, or even beet or wine. Each one of these options brings out different notes and levels of sweetness that will enhance your culinary creation.

What adds the most flavor to chili? ›

If you want more of a smoky flavor, add cumin, Spanish paprika, ancho chili powder, or a combination. If you are looking for more heat, add cayenne, crushed red pepper, or Hungarian paprika. If it's too spicy add a little brown sugar and some sweet paprika.

What is the best meat for chili? ›

Ground beef is an immensely versatile, excellent addition to any chili and happens to be one of the quickest to cook and least expensive options of them all. That means you could cook a large amount of chili to feed your entire family for less.

What goes well with chili mac? ›

Serving Suggestions

This is a hearty meal on its own, but I love serving it with some cornbread. It would also go well with a side salad or even some biscuits! To make The Best One-Pot Chili Mac Recipe, start by browning your ground beef with the onion and garlic.

Why do you put vinegar in chili? ›

With only about 1 tablespoon per pot added toward the end of the cooking process, the vinegar will make the flavors more vibrant without overwhelming the dish with its biting tang. Through just a splash, everything becomes a little brighter, and the chili's flavors are more balanced.

What spices make chili hotter? ›

Spicier chili: to make chili even spicier, don't remove the ribs or seeds from the jalapeño. You can also add hot sauce, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes or dice up another hot chili pepper. I recommend trying the recipe as stated and letting the flavors sit for a few hours before adding additional spice.

Does chili need tomato paste? ›

Tomato sauce is not a strong a taste as tomato paste. Also, sauce will increase the liquid content of your chili ever so slightly. Tomato paste has a more full, rich, tomato taste and smell. Using either one is appropriate, but you will need to tweak your seasonings to suit your personal tastes, anyway.

What does cinnamon do for chili? ›

Much like adding chili powder and other common chili spices, cinnamon is a super versatile spice that adds warmth without the heat to Firecracker chili.

Is chili better the longer it cooks? ›

A low and slow cook time—at least an hour total—is key for drawing out the most flavor in a pot of chili. Yes, a quick chili is most welcome on weeknights, but it won't have quite the same results. A slow cooker works wonders, but if you're short on time, try a pressure cooker.

Which onion is best for chili? ›

Sweet onions are great for caramelizing due to their higher sugar content. You can cook them into your chili, serve them raw over top, or even elevate your chili with a sophisticated caramelized onion topping! Some of my favorite sweet onions are Walla, Walla, Maui, and Vidalia Onions.

What kind of beans are best for chili? ›

The best beans for chili are pinto, kidney, and black beans, like in this easy and tasty recipe. This 3-bean chili freezes great for meals later in the week. If you prefer thinner chili, add an extra can of tomato sauce. The green chiles are not hot and add a wonderful flavor, so don't be afraid to use them.

Do you drain meat when making chili? ›

The beef will release a lot of fat and liquid — do not drain it; you'll skim the fat off at the end. Add the ancho chili powder, chipotle chili powder, cumin, oregano, coriander, smoked paprika, and cinnamon (if using). Cook, stirring frequently, for 1 to 2 minutes, until well combined and fragrant.

What is chili mac made of? ›

Chili mac is a dish prepared using chili con carne and macaroni as primary ingredients, which is often topped or intermingled with cheese. Some versions are made using prepared or homemade macaroni and cheese.

What is the difference between goulash and chili mac? ›

And while other components such as garlic, onions, broth, and tomato sauce are also common in American goulash, there is another key differentiator: evaporated milk. Combined with a greater volume of shredded cheese, chili mac typically takes on a creamier, thicker consistency.

What is chili mac other name? ›

Chili mac is very similar to American goulash — a one-pot meal made with ground beef, pasta, tomato sauce, and cheese.

Why is my chili not flavorful? ›

Change up the beans. Use black beans, pintos, or a combination of beans to give more flavor. Cook the chili! If you don't cook it long enough (or put in a pressure cooker to speed up the process), it won't taste quite right.

How do you make chili taste more meaty? ›

In a pot of chili, just a few strips of bacon add a smoky, meaty depth. And it's not just the bacon itself that adds flavor, it's the bacon fat, too. Before you start your recipe, cook 3 to 4 strips of thick-cut bacon until they're as crispy as you like.

How important is oregano in chili? ›

Oregano is an important herb in chilli con carne. The oregano that you'll most commonly find is the Mediterranean kind, commonly found in Greek and Italian cooking.
